Throwing my two cents in and I know I probably shouldn't. Victory or Death goes overboard in banning people. Just look at Biggin, and Gym Monster. Biggin, is very knowledgeable and as long as you have sensible people talking to him you'll be ok, the problem is the people who have no clue what they are talking about. GymMonster hasn't got out of line yet, just my two cents. Feel free to crucify me now.

The reason I was asking was I didn't see anything out of line. It could have been on the Political or Religous Forums because I don't frequent those very often.

You know, I agree with you that he hasn't gotten out of line, but we don't know what he did, whether it be in a pm or what. As for Biggin, I think he should be allowed back, everyone knows that Biggin runs off at the mouth sometimes, but if you hold an intellegent conversation with him, he responds very intellectually. I think some of the mods on here go overboard sometimes, but then again, I am not a mod. I guess the banning has begun in earnest this year.

I have found out recently though, that Gym Monster can and will talk intellegently to you, if you don't go and get all defensive and sarcastic with him.

Biggin banned yet posters such as Raider13 allowed?

Yeah, really. If Biggin has been banned for being rude and sarcastic to everyone, then everybody on this board needs to be banned because we all have been that way at one time or another on here.

Some people have power trips, others just are here to discuss. Stuff like this is why imo you have people such as Nola, Dane, Mega, Freddy, etc rarely if ever coming on here. Now, someone such as Biggin, who is very knowledgeable about sports banned? Needless to say, stuff said on here spouted off to the media? Board is going down hill imo, I'll never ever post anything again on the regular board about high school or college sports, think I posted for the first time in over a month on that board today.

IMO those ppl had to the entertainment on the board.

In all honesty I shot radider13 a PM letting him know about this Obama article I found in the Coalfield and he can actually be a decent guy and he's capable of having a very decent intelligent conversation also. I know he gets a lil carried away with his "convictions" on the board but he's still young too.. and overall I see no harm in what he's said nor what Gym Monster has posted.

I think the mods do a good job for the most part esp. Rock and CoeburnCanes, but shouldn't someone have to break a particular rule of the forum to get banned and shouldn't they be warned first? and maybe this already happened with Gym Monster I don't know I guess everyone just wants further explanation.

Why was gym monster banned? Or has that already been answered?

GymMonster was banned due to being banned previously repeatedly and being banned permanently.

Its funny, with all the banning on here, there is probably what, 2-3 people banned? Then the same people who get on here and complain about bannings, complain that everybody gets away with anything.

I was actually willing to let GymMonster try again, but I'm fairly easy going. When he was anonymous, he generally was behaving, but he is/was very easily roped into things, and I'll agree that some were trying to bait him.

I'm definitely flexible on things, so to me, I appreciate seeing the opinions on here and hope the other mods do as well.

Ok, we all can agree with your decision on that and I, for one respect it. But could you at least bring Biggin back? I know he is obnixious as hell, but he is informative as well.

Agreed. IMO, none of the three should be banned. Each board is different and I don't own it, I just post here. haha I'd like to think I provide positive input to the boards the majority of the time. Of course this is coming from a guy who was recently banned from the CMD board. haha At the three major boards, CMD, LPD, and VA Preps, I go from Mod, to old timer, to banned. haha I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder. However, overall this board does have me scared to death. You couldn't pay me to post something controversial on here again, it's not worth it. I"m sure VOD will take offense to what I said, I would if it was me. I'm just glad that I was able to be on here long enough to get to know people that I respect and are able to talk about stuff I'm interested in. People such as IronLung, UTVols, Jason, 1inStripes, etc really don't know how much I appreciate sending me score updates. HS Football is quite a hobby of mine, and regardless of who plays at Salem in December I'll be there yet, I hope JIB or CW is there so I can join the rest of SWVA and cheer them on. Overall, people take this board to seriously both members and non members. I can honestly say I regret posting what I did about Coach Crockett years ago, (however I do think he was the wrong man for the wrong job) this was not the place to do it. It's hard imo, to understand the world when your young. I personally, just now imo understand what needs to be done to achieve in life. I've found something that I love, and want to continue in that field and there is no way I would let this place screw that up. This is for fun, yet it goes way overboard at times. People for some reason attack you, and you attack them. It's imo, impossible to remain tame on here. Unless of course, you imo are smart enough and don't respond to those who call you out. I personally, if someone says something to me that degrades me or attacks me will respond, it's just how I am, what I was taught, and how I was raised. However, as I get older I understand you have to pick and choose your battles, you have to understand that you have much to lose and very little to gain yet at some point you have to defend yourself (which is why I try to put myself in fewer positions in which I have to do so). I hope to continue to post on this (OldTimers Club/private pm's) with information that I have pertaining to high school sports.

I do not take anything you say towards me, or to me as offensive. This is just an online discussion board..

this board is great.. but when mods don't step up, people complain that we aren't doing our jobs.. then when we do, people complain we are too harsh..

also, I dont have a power trip.. I just like to keep things tight around here

good post DD. I wish more people on here could post on here and no get so heated as to attack another member. But I am usually a peace keeper so why not stay out of the way right?

Honestly, imo there is very few that would actually be allowed to post here if you treated us all the same. I'm not saying you should treat us all the same either, why should you treat someone such as C-Dawg the same as GymMonster? This board is a nut house a lot of times, and I respect what our mods do here but I do think it is fairly obvious to see that we as a board are running off very informed and positive posters.

I will say this, if more and more people continue to get access to the OldTimers Club I will take more of my stuff to private pm's amongst people I know and trust. Like I said it's just not worth it, I've already started doing so and continue to send more and more to pm's. It's just my personal preference, not sure how the rest of the members feel about that.

No, everyone posting here is fine by me. I didn't have a problem with Gym Monster, but he broke the rules. He was banned, and wasn't allowed back, and got back on here again..

I treat everyone on here the same.

I just don't agree with anybody on here trying to "pull people in", and get them to go off or something. I take a stand against that, and that only.

I will not allow anyone to access this board, unless I know who they are personally.

It was pretty much known who he was when he first started posting again. I think it's been about 2 weeks since word got out he was pac/weed/hokie/gym. Why did it take 2 weeks? Did he do something else?

We as mods, actually discussed the option of banning or not too.. It seriously has taken a bit to come to a decision.
We did vote, and he was voted away.
He was banned.. he broke the rule of creating false names, etc.. to come back.. thus, banned again.

This is an open forum or as I know it. You can't pick and choose who makes contributions. Sometimes people get a little carried away with their contributions.I have been on this board for a day or so,,, and read a whole lot more than I post.. I can see as well as a lot of other posters what is right or wrong... the problems that occur can be easily be discovered by 'clicking' and 'reading'. I 'ain't' mad at anyone...I just like being here, reading and continuing to enjoy what information is available.

Its the biggest reason why I always made a habit of not trying to know people, it wasn't trying to be a jerk, just made it easier to be as fair as possible. If you don't do what someone thinks you should one time and they find any reason to scream about it, they will.

I actually didn't know GymMonster is/was who he was till the last few days, mainly because my time has been severely limited on here, and trying to figure out options on what to do with the board. I actually figured, like has been done before, it was someone 'pretending to be him'. We've had people post in a style before to try and immitate someone.

I really do not like to ban people. I also don't like people taking things too personal or trying to get people in trouble in the real world with things they know or find out. It's silly. I'm not a fan of outting people, I know who a lot of people are on here, people that never post, and I have no desire to reveal them. Some people, the moment they find out who someone is, can't wait but to figure out a way to use that against them.

It's a message board, it shouldn't be used as gospel or anything along those lines.

The request was made for Biggin to be back and I did reinstate him. However when someone comes on and cusses someone out, basically tells the mods to go F themselves, you dont reward that behavior, do you? I mean being knowledgeable is great and lord knows we love having knowledgeable posters, but most of the time, with being able to have an intelligent discussion, comes the ability to behave within accepted manners. If someone is a long time poster, who has shown some credibility, obviously we give them a bit more latitude, which is better than some places. That being said, if the smartest, most informed person in the world goes on tv and can't discuss something without them having to bleep 50% of what he says, does it really have that much credibility?

In general, this forum is very laid back and we try to not go to pieces on every attempt to circumvent the profanity filter. I pretty much have stated before, RIP Carlin, but we pretty much only try to worry so much about his words you can't say on tv.

Do we make mistakes? No doubt. Every mod has made them, sometimes we'll be in a bad mood and less forgiving. Sometimes we may think someone is funny and give them a bit more freedom, etc.

The thing is, you don't have to agree with us, I'm sure that there are times we won't agree with you. If someone can explain something rational to me, or even attempt to show some remorse, I'm willing to give people chances, because at the end of the day, this is just a message board/forum.

Have we lost some good posters over time? No doubt but some of the good posters have family members graduate and moved on, some get tired of not being able to talk without being cut, there are reasons upon reasons.

As for the old timers forum, I dont add just anybody. I pretty much need to know someone, or have someone who is an old time member vouch for them, not just being of age, but showing the ability to post in an adult manner. And I should add that there are a handful that are on a short list, basically one screw up and they can go back to the regular board.

It's not perfct, never will be and its a constantly changing system.

There are plenty of people on here, and in the "real world" that know my name.. and who I am on this board..

Well sometimes thats the case, but there are times where it can influence things. In PVFan's case, we all know that something he said on here that was used by some of the press hurt his chances in helping out at the college more. I, along with other people, have had some people get so ticked off at the something said or done that people try to affect their employment. Thats when it does change things.

Yeah, I do understand that.
I dislike people who would use this forum against someones work.
However, anything said on here, on any part of this forum, is open to be taken and used against them.
It sucks, but it happens.

Had someone on here threaten to call RO and get me fired once. That was funny as hizell (had my supers rolling when I shared that with them)

What a body does or says on his own time is nobody's business (unless he is breaking the law)
